The Salesforce CPQ Architect position is a critical leadership role designed for an expert with over a decade of experience in the Salesforce ecosystem. This remote, contract-based opportunity requires an individual who can bridge the gap between complex business requirements and high-performance technical architecture. The architect will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of enterprise-scale Salesforce CPQ implementations, ensuring that solutions are not only functional but also scalable and maintainable within the constraints of the Salesforce platform.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
The primary focus of this role is to lead the architectural design and implementation of Salesforce CPQ solutions. This involves a deep understanding of the Quote-to-Cash process, where the architect must translate intricate business needs into robust technical designs. Beyond configuration, the architect is expected to oversee the development of custom components using Apex and Lightning Web Components (LWC), while ensuring seamless integration with external systems such as ERPs and billing platforms.
| Category | Key Responsibilities |
| Architecture | Lead end-to-end CPQ solution design, ensure scalability, and optimize performance. |
| Configuration | Design Product Catalogs, Bundles, Price Rules, and advanced pricing models. |
| Development | Oversee Apex, LWC, and Flow development; build Quote Calculator Plugins (QCP). |
| Integration | Connect CPQ with ERPs (SAP, Oracle, etc.), Salesforce Billing, and Revenue Cloud. |
| Leadership | Conduct code reviews, mentor development teams, and manage stakeholder expectations. |
Technical Expertise and Skills
A successful candidate must demonstrate mastery over both the functional and technical aspects of Salesforce CPQ. This includes expertise in configuring complex product rules and discount schedules, as well as a strong command of the underlying Salesforce platform. The architect should be adept at managing Asset-Based Ordering (ABO), subscription management, and dynamic quote document generation. Furthermore, proficiency in modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines is highly preferred to ensure smooth deployment cycles.
| Skill Domain | Core Competencies |
| CPQ Functional | Product Configuration, Price Rules, Guided Selling, Contracting, and Renewals. |
| Salesforce Technical | Apex, SOQL/SOSL, Flows, LWC, Platform Events, and Custom Metadata. |
| Integrations | REST/SOAP APIs, MuleSoft, DocuSign, and Tax Engines (Avalara/Vertex). |
| DevOps (Preferred) | Copado, Gearset, Git, and CI/CD Pipelines. |
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet stringent experience and certification requirements. A minimum of 10 years of Salesforce experience is required, with at least 5 years specifically focused on CPQ implementations. The Salesforce Certified CPQ Specialist credential is a mandatory prerequisite; profiles lacking this certification will not be evaluated. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills, as the role requires frequent interaction with senior business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
| Requirement Type | Description |
| Experience | 10+ years total Salesforce; 5+ years hands-on CPQ implementation. |
| Mandatory Cert | Salesforce Certified CPQ Specialist. |
| Preferred Certs | Platform Developer II, Application/System Architect, Sales Cloud Consultant. |
